About Beer

Our selection of beer mimics the design of our wine list in the sense that they are intended to pair well with food. A small selection that ranges from a lighter style Kölsch to the rich, malty Belgian Trappist Ale is intended to offer the non-wine drinker a satisfying beverage option that can compliment our food.

Here are some more thoughts on our beer selection:

Reissdorf Kölsch

Kölsch takes its name from the town of Köln (Cologne) in Germany, which boasts the largest number of breweries in the world. Very strict parameters govern the production of this light yet tasty brew, therefore it can be scarce. The Reissdorf family has been putting out some of the best classic style Kolsch since 1894. A great substitute for a flavorless light ale, plus, a few more ounces!

Allagash White

A friend of ours to the north, the Allagash Brewery from Portland, Maine makes some outstanding Belgian-style beers. Fashioned after the traditional wheat beers, this refreshing ale has a lovely, spicy aroma, and is light bodied with a slight cloudiness. Pairs perfectly with an array of cheeses.

Brewery Ommegang 'Hennepin'

Better known for its Baseball Hall of Fame to most, Cooperstown, New York is equally famous in the beer world for its Brewery Ommegang. Another domestic producer crafting their suds after the Belgians (they must be doing something right), 'Hennepin' is the archetypal Saison style ale—rich, complex, and absolutely refreshing.

Moortgat Brewery, Duvel Golden Ale

Arguably a classic, Duvel is actually from Belgium. Dump out this portly bottle into its proper glass, and enjoy the sweet maltiness beneath the rich frothy head.

Westmalle Trappist Dubbel

The Trappist monks have been in the beer business for ages, but right now there are only six which by law can label their product 'Trappist.' Westmalle is one of the five in Belgium (the sixth is in the Netherlands), producing stronger ales made with sugar in the kettle, yielding a malty yet well-balanced beverage.
